CYC teams up with Machias American Legion Post 1460 in a Community-Wide Project. Together we can make a difference in the lives of these wonderful boy’s and there family.... |
|
The Eisenhardt family has had many hurdles in the past 10 years, with Dalton and Wyatt both born with an extremely rare chromosomal defect (Unbalanced Translocation Chromosomal 15). The community of Machias has been there in the past with fundraisers and raffles, and Western New York has often answered the call for these determined little guys. To join in the efforts, the CYC Inc. joined with the Machias American Legion Post 1460 who had “Adopted” the family in past fund raisers. The CYC, well known for it’s work in the Western New York area serving the handicapped and others in need, was anxious to show the same support for the two young boys from their own home town. With all the machinery and supplies that are needed for the boys, a larger handicapped accessible home was needed to give the entire family, “Room to Breathe”. Volunteers met regularly to plan the project, and on November 4th, 2009, the former building occupying the lot was demolished. From that day forward, volunteers worked tirelessly, daily, throughout the winter, until the family moved in just before Christmas. The Lord, by his grace, gave us a mild winter during the project months, and other than a few mild dustings, no snow fell to damper the spirits of the workers or to ruin their work. |

In appreciation for the project and all that it meant to the Eisenhardt family, the boys’ mother Vicky sent the following letter:
My family has lived in this town for almost 15 years, and up until three months ago, we have been a family that isn’t well known in this community. However, over the past few months, we have been embraced by the people of Machias and Western New York, and have felt very loved by the people here.
Having a new house will mean so much to our family: and especially to my three boys. They will have more room to meet their needs, as the project was started with the intention to give us all “Room to Breathe,” as Pete of the CYC likes to say.
The volunteers that have so graciously given of their time and talents will forever be remembered by our family. We feel very blessed to be part of such a great group of people. Although we don’t know how we can ever repay all of those involved in this project, we hope along the way everyone can take a part of our love with them. |
